Our Story

From grandmother's kitchen to your table - a journey of passion, flavor, and fire

It Started with a Dare

In 2018, Marco "Maverick" Rodriguez was challenged by his grandmother, Abuela Rosa, to recreate her legendary secret hot sauce recipe that had been lost for decades.

"Mijo, if you can make people cry tears of joy like my salsa did, then you'll know you've found your calling," she said with a knowing smile.

What started as a family challenge in a small Austin kitchen became an obsession with perfecting the balance between heat and flavor.

The Journey to Perfection

Every great sauce has a story. Ours is written in sweat, tears, and countless taste tests.

2018 - The First Burn

After 47 failed attempts, Marco finally created a sauce that made Abuela Rosa smile. "This one has soul, mijo," she whispered, tears streaming down her face from both the heat and the pride.

Friends and family couldn't get enough. Every weekend barbecue became a testing ground for new flavors and heat levels.

2019 - The Heat Hunt

Marco embarked on a pepper pilgrimage, traveling to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Southeast Asia to source the world's finest chilies. Each region taught him new techniques and flavor profiles.

In a small village outside Oaxaca, he learned the ancient art of smoking peppers over mesquite wood - a technique that would become signature to Maverick sauces.

2020 - The Maverick Way

During the pandemic lockdown, Marco perfected his craft. With his partner Sofia managing operations, they developed the "Maverick Process" - small-batch brewing with hand-selected peppers and a proprietary fermentation technique.

"We don't just make hot sauce," Sofia explains, "we create liquid courage in a bottle."

2021 - Going Maverick

The first commercial batch sold out in 3 days. Food bloggers called it "liquid gold with a kick." Local restaurants began asking for custom blends. The Maverick legend was born.

Today, every bottle still follows Abuela Rosa's original philosophy: "Make them feel the heat, but always leave them wanting more."

The Maverick Process

How we turn humble peppers into liquid fire that people crave

1. Source

We partner with small farms worldwide to get the finest peppers at peak ripeness. Each pepper is hand-selected for color, heat, and flavor potential.

2. Roast

Our signature mesquite smoking process adds depth and complexity. Each pepper variety gets its own roasting profile perfected over years of experimentation.

3. Ferment

The magic happens during our 6-8 week fermentation process. Natural probiotics develop complex flavors while beneficial bacteria work their alchemy.

4. Bottle

Every bottle is filled, capped, and labeled by hand. We taste-test each batch and only bottles that meet our extreme standards make it to your table.
